Salem Witch Judge: The Life and Repentance of Sewall by Eve LaPlante

The Salem Witch Trials are a dark stain on America’s history and on the history of the Church. This book looks at the life of one of the judges of these trials who stood before his church and repented for his wrongdoing. Salem Witch Judge offers a glimpse into an attitude that can be hard to find in churches today. I highly recommend this book. Sewall’s life and his development of his view of God and himself is a theme. However, I do disagree with his view of America. But, this book is an excellent look at being open in church and a way of critically thinking about the various dark stains in Church History.
